Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be as daunting as it seems. Instead of trying to jump on everything at once you should break the home down according to rooms. Then create a simple checklist for each room. As you clean, mark items off the checklist and you know you’ll have the job completed. Here are some guidelines for getting your house back to working order come spring cleaning time.
Build A Checklist
Before you start cleaning you should create a checklist for the entire house. This should include each room and then the various tasks you’ll need to perform in the rooms. This is spring cleaning, so don’t hold back. Having all of your objectives clearly stated on a checklist will make it easier to ensure you get the job done the right way and don’t get overwhelmed.
Start With The Top
You might build a house from the bottom to top, but when it comes to cleaning you should always work in the opposite direction. Dust rains down with gravity. If you clean the floor and then clean the ceiling you’ll wind up with dust and debris back on the carpet beneath you. You’ll have to re-clean the floor, which is a complete waste of time. The same goes with cleaning the floors and then cleaning the table tops. Dirt always winds up back down on the carpet so you should always clean that last.
Prepare Yourself With The Right Tools
Running back and forth to the kitchen or pantry to grab cleaning supplies is another huge waste of time. Instead, get a bucket and fill it with all of the cleaning supplies and tools that you’ll need for the job. This could include detergents, brushes, cloths, gloves, brooms, mops, sponges, and anything else you might need.
It’s also a good idea to keep them clean and organized. You want to be able to rely on them to get the job done whenever you may need them next. So don’t leave them lying around dirty once you’ve finished cleaning.
You should also prepare yourself mentally with the right attitude. Bring a bottle of water, turn off the television, and put on your favorite playlist. You can easily find a million reasons to procrastinate and avoid cleaning. Instead, get yourself into the mood to cleaning and have fun with it.
Divide Your Room Into Sections
Even a single room can sometimes seem overwhelming. Just as you would divide your home into rooms, you should divide your room into smaller sections as well. Try separating it like a clock with each section of the room representing a different hour. You can then start at the 12 o’clock mark and work around the room in a clockwise motion. Also remember to follow the top-to-bottom method as well.
